This Privacy Policy explains what information Wiki City Guide ("the App", "we", "us") collects, how it's used, and who it's shared with. Wiki City Guide is a single-developer app — there is no company or team behind it beyond the developer contactable at brad@wikicityguide.com.

Information We Collect

Location Data

The App requests precise location access, including background access when "Touring" is active, in order to find Wikipedia articles about places near you and to detect when you've walked close enough to a place for it to be read aloud. Your coordinates are sent directly to Wikipedia's public geosearch API to look up nearby articles — Wiki City Guide does not operate its own servers and never receives or stores your location remotely. Location data used to detect proximity to places is processed entirely on your device. You can revoke location access at any time in your device's system settings, which stops Touring and background collection immediately.

Usage Analytics

We use PostHog, a third-party analytics provider, to understand how the App is used. The events we record are limited to product usage — for example, that onboarding was completed, a tour was started, a specific article was viewed (by title), the paywall was shown, skipped, or led to a purchase or free trial. We do not send your location, contacts, or any Wikipedia article content you didn't explicitly view to PostHog. PostHog may automatically collect standard technical metadata (such as device type, OS version, and IP address) as part of its service.

Purchase Information

Subscriptions and one-time purchases are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play, and subscription status is verified through RevenueCat, a third-party subscription management platform. RevenueCat receives purchase receipts and a device/customer identifier in order to confirm your entitlement and let you restore purchases across devices. We do not receive or store your payment details — Apple and Google handle all billing.

How We Use Information

Location data is used solely to find and surface nearby Wikipedia content. Analytics data is used to understand which features are used and to fix problems. Purchase data is used to unlock paid features and let you restore a purchase you've already made.

Third Parties We Use

• Wikimedia Foundation — supplies place data and article content via Wikipedia's public API.
• PostHog — product usage analytics.
• RevenueCat — subscription and purchase management.
• Apple / Google — payment processing and app distribution.

Data Storage and Retention

Places you've discovered are cached locally on your device (using the Hive local database) so the App works offline and doesn't re-download the same data. You can clear this cache at any time from Settings. Uninstalling the App removes all locally stored data.

Children's Privacy

Wiki City Guide is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your Choices

You can disable location access at any time in your device settings. You can request deletion of any analytics or purchase-linked data we're able to identify by emailing brad@wikicityguide.com.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will be revised. Continued use of the App after a change means you accept the updated policy.
